Check Out The NEW Discovery Center at the SF Science Center & Aquarium

May 13, 2015
The Discovery Center at the SFSCA is specifically targeted to children birth-to-age 6 years and their parents. The new Pre-K zoned room is part of the Science Center's most recent expansion and includes a giant 16 x 5-foot water table, a wall-sized Lite Brite play area, lounge area for parents, story time area with book shelves, a dress-up area and more! The $200,000 addition was funded by grants from PNC, Lost Tree Village Foundation and a portion of the Center's State of Florida cultural facilities funding.

"Studies have shown that a science-rich environment helps children succeed in school," said Cressman Bronson, PNC regional president for Florida East, speaking on behalf of the PNC Foundation. "By helping preschoolers to learn about science in a fun and interactive way, we support a solid foundation for the well-being of local children, their families and ultimately, our economy."

The Discovery Center powered by PNC Grow Up Great is intended for children 6 years and younger. Admission to the Discovery Center area is included with paid admission to the SFSCA.

"We're really responding to a great demand to provide an area in the Science Center that engages this age group," said Lew Crampton, SFSCA CEO. "Our early learning classes at the Science Center Come are hugely popular because we make learning fun and exciting. Children are introduced to chemistry, biology, physics, and geology through play-based, hands-on activities that stimulate thought and teach cause and effect.  Young children learn through play, and each class provides an experience for children and caregivers that is both educational and memorable. The Discovery Center will allow us to offer those same opportunities to all of our Pre-K guests throughout the day."
