Secondhand Sunshine Children's Consignment Sale: September 12-14

Tips for Selling Your Gently Loved Children's Items

July 17, 2014

Shopping and selling at consignment sales is not only good for your wallet but it is good for the environment, too. Here are some great tips for selling your gently used children's clothing, toys, gear, women's designer clothing, shoes and more at the fantastic Secondhand Sunshine Sale coming to Palm Beach Gardens September 12-14, 2014.

Tips
from a fellow Macaroni Kid publisher:

Price Reasonably. This is number one for a reason. I cannot tell you how many things I pick up and put down because they're priced higher than they would have been on sale in the store.  (My favorites are the people who buy things on clearance, leave the clearance sticker on the tag, and then price the item higher than the clearance price!)

Bundle Items. This is so easy to do and makes it much easier to sell your stuff.  I usually divide clothes into outfits while I take them out of boxes, and then use my tagging gun, a snap loop fastener or zip ties to connect the items on the seam or hang tag and hang it all together on the same hanger. If you can't put together an outfit, then just bundle a couple of shirts or a couple of pants together. Make sure you don’t use pins – people don’t want to buy clothes with holes in them.

Fasten and Hang Carefully. Especially when putting items together in a bundle, pay attention to where you put your fasteners. Whether you are using a tagging gun, a snap loop fastener, or a zip tie, make sure you don’t damage the clothing.  Use appropriate sized hangers – children’s shirts don’t look right on adult hangers and will discourage buyers. Pants and skirts should be hung using pants/skirt hangers. And, always make sure your clothing is neatly pressed and buttoned/zipped. The right presentation will maximize your sales!

Clean Up Those Shoes! It may take a little time, but clean those shoes up before you bag them!  Shoes are a hot commodity, especially in the larger sizes.  If you have good shoes that just need some dirt knocked off, clean those puppies up!

Get Organized BEFORE You Enter Online. If you have your items stacked, and your tags numbered, before you sit down to enter everything in, it will go so much faster!  And you won't be hunting around for number 23, or the shirt that went with those pants, or anything else.  Wait for nap time or for the kids to go to bed, and you can turn on your favorite show, sit down, and have some quiet time! So, do you have boxes of summer clothes sitting in the attic?  Are your kids' rooms overflowing with toys that never really get played with anymore?  Have you redecorated one of your kids' rooms lately? Take all that stuff and SELL IT!

Want to shop early and make more money? (You know the really good deals go fast!) SHS offers some of the best perks around to volunteer, including the chance to shop early at two pre-sales and earn up to 12% more money back in your pocket. Working one three hour shift gets you one Volunteer PreSale Pass, and if you work two shifts, you get to shop the Volunteer Discount Day PreSale too. Work three or four shifts and earn more money back for all of your sales!  Volunteering is always fun, you get the chance to hang out with other moms and a little break from the kids.  You can do anything from setting up, to working the sale, to helping sort after the sale.
