St. Marks Episcopal School 2017

By St. Mark's Episcopal School March 9, 2017
St. Mark’s Episcopal School welcomes children of all faiths to experience its exceptional academic program in a safe, nurturing community.  “There is an immense heart that beats at the center of the St. Mark’s community,” shares Deb Strainge, Head of School. “The depth of commitment to strong academics, principled character, and generosity of spirit is a distinctive quality of St. Mark’s.” As a tradition-rich Episcopal School, St. Mark’s gracefully integrates the development of faith and character into its educational experience. In church, in the classroom, and in service to the community, students have authentic opportunities to grow spiritually.

Supporting students through their formative middle years is tantamount to our mission. A community of our size allows faculty to connect with each child in order to both nurture and challenge. Our highly regarded academic program inspires students to think in increasingly complex and abstract ways. Coursework includes a strong focus on writing in all subject areas, mastery of math concepts and their application, hands-on science experimentation, and wide-ranging historical and cultural explorations in social studies. High school level courses are offered in Spanish, French, and mathematics, yet managing time, assignments, and goals is as much a part of our curriculum as the content itself.

“Our main focus is to educate the whole child,” said Strainge. “While our academic program is rigorous, we encourage the social and emotional growth of our students.” Students cultivate their talents and develop a heart for service and are encouraged to explore extracurricular involvement ranging from competitive sports to web design and newspaper club, service league, and popular elective courses in the visual and performing arts. Every aspect of the dynamic experience is structured to provide students with confidence, values, habits, skills, and knowledge to succeed in high school and beyond.  Graduates gain admission to top area high schools and leave with a sound foundation for life, lifelong friends, and many memories.

The recent completion of St. Mark’s grand redevelopment plan provides impressive facilities for our comprehensive programs.
