Grande Lakes Orlando Resort Hotel

JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton

By Ashley Morse, Editor and Publisher September 3, 2015
Last year, I had the amazing opportunity to spend a few days at the beautiful Grande Lakes Orlando Resort (JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton) with 15 of the top Macaroni Kid publishers and then with my family. And, this summer we went back. I cannot say enough good things about it- located on 500 gorgeous lush tropical acres (minutes from SeaWorld if your kids need some theme park time) in the heart of Orlando- this place equals the perfect vacation. From endless pool options and kids club activities to kayaking, fishing and golf, and from incredible restaurants and cooking classes to private cabanas and a full spa, there really is something here to entertain everyone in the family. And, you will not sacrifice luxury or quality here-the resort houses some of the best restaurants, sleeping accommodations and activities in Orlando and the attention to detail and service are impeccable.

Pools/Playgrounds/Games
On the Ritz-Carlton side, there is a serene pool with poolside cabanas where you can spend a peaceful afternoon reading and cooling off-- perfect for couples or with girlfriends. The JW Marriott side houses a playground, a lazy river and several pools perfect for the kiddos.  My family spent almost an entire day swimming, splashing and floating in the lazy river. There is a playground, a giant chess board, and an arcade right off the pool as well. Tip: Make sure you check the schedule of activities for kids activities such as arts and crafts and games poolside.

Eco-Tours/Kayaking
When you think about Orlando, nature does not usually come to mind but check this out-- running right through the property is Shingle Creek, which is at the Headwaters to the Florida Everglades. And, the resort offers phenomenal eco-tours by kayak. I have to tell you that if you do nothing else, this could be the highlight of your trip. Not only will you and your children learn about the history of Shingle Creek and possibly catch a glimpse of native species such as alligators, bald eagles, osprey and barred owls in their natural habitat, but it is such a relaxing way to spend a morning.

Ritz Kids
If you need some adult time, Grande Lakes is definitely the place for you- your kids will have a blast at the Ritz Kids Club. A favorite with our kids was the pet bunny, iguanas and a chicken!

The Ritz-Carlton Spa
Ahhh. The spa. What parent couldn't use a little pampering? Check the kids into the Kids Club or leave them with your spouse and head over to the Ritz-Carlton Spa. The spa is gorgeous, with every possible treatment option available- I had an incredible massage and fabulous pedicure. The 40,000-square-foot Spa features 40 treatment rooms, a 4,000-square-foot outdoor heated lap pool and healing waters for the exclusive use of Spa guests, a Co-ed relaxation conservatory, Full-service salon, a 6,000-square-foot Wellness Center and a Spa Café.

Rooms

The rooms are nothing less than what you would expect from a luxury property, comfortable, spacious and offer beautiful views.

Food/Whisper Creek Farm

Where do I start? If you are a foodie like I am, with ten dining options, this place is heaven. Not only is Grand Lakes home to some of the best restaurants in Orlando, such as PrimoNorman's, and The Vineyard Grill but they take fresh to a whole new level- the chefs often create menus based on what is available and grown right there on property at the Whisper Creek Farm and two large organic gardens.

The Whisper Creek Farm is also available for private events. (This would be a stunning place for an anniversary party or a wedding.)

Cooking Class
We ended our trip in the kitchen at the Ritz-Carlton where we had the amazing opportunity to learn a few tips from the Ritz-Carlton chefs with a private cooking class and dinner. Tip: If you love food and would like to have a unique experience I highly recommend checking out the JW Griffin Cooking School

In addition to all of the great experiences offered on-site, Orlando Grande Lakes offers transportation to all of the local theme parks. Visit the Grande Lakes Orlando website for more information, packages and specials. If you are looking for a fun, luxurious, relaxing and unique getaway, the Grande Lakes Orlando Resort, has it all.  This will truly be one vacation your family will never forget.
